Boyd is on to something... we are easily distracted from that which we are called to. This seems particularly true of an issue as polarizing as this. I think it is also easy to hide behind this type of thinking though...to never really engage the world for fear of getting dirty is not what followers of Christ are called to. Yet Greg makes an important point...we should never lose sight of what is truly important. Our battle is to be found else where. Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
